Prompt: Red
Fandom: NCIS
Ziva rounded her desk, looking curiously at the box sitting there. There was no note and she grabbed a pen from her draw and used it to carefully lift the top to see what was inside. She jumped back, letting the top fall when she saw the box contained red lingerie. Her head snapped up to make sure no one was around to see and she shoved the box off her desk and into the trash. Tony walked past her and she glared at him. "Not funny," she sat down.
"What? No idea what you're talking about," he said innocently.
Prompt: Popular culture
Fandom: Bleach
Of all the wonders the living world had to offer, Isshin found television to be the greatest of all of them. Well, besides Masaki, but okay "man made" wonders. She would scold him for sitting too close to the screen but he was entranced by the spaceship flying across it. Battlestar Galactica, a race of refugees searching for the mysterious 13th colony called Earth. It spoke of adventure into the unknown, which was relatable to his life right now, the choice he'd made. So much of the world to see and he hoped Masaki would join him to see it.
Prompt: Villain
Fandom: Bleach
Urahara Kisuke wondered at what point he started being seen as the villain. It must have happened long before Aizen otherwise he wouldn't have been such an easy target to frame. He knew better than that, yet he still let himself fall into the trap. At first it hurt. Everyone he had considered a friend besides Yoruichi had believed the worst. He owed her everything, his life especially, though it had always belonged to her. Even when they were pretending there was nothing between them, the idea was always left hanging in the air. He could trust her, always would.
Prompt: Turning point
Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Cara watched Mistress Nathair as she spoke. It was hard to hear her words, hard to come to the realization that she was manipulated more than she originally thought she was. The other things; the rats, the beatings with the agiel, they were things she'd long since taken as things that made her stronger. Her father though... that was indeed very hard to take in. She had killed him over a lie. He couldn't even speak to defend himself and she'd killed him. She turned to look at Kahlan, the Mother Confessor watching her carefully. "Confess me, I deserve it."
Prompt: Autumn
Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Kahlan looked out over the valley before them and took a deep breath. She loved how pretty everything looked when the trees started turning color and even though it meant winter was coming, autumn was her favorite season. The Midlands quieted down and it was as though the world was taking a breath before sleeping until spring. Richard came up beside her and his hand on her shoulder made her smile. She leaned into him, her fingers brushing against his. It was easy to forget their troubles when the world looked like this. It was easy to pretend it away.
Prompt: Ice cubes
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Stiles didn't realize how annoying a cup of ice water could actually be. He was trying to concentrate, books splayed out on the table in front of him, but Scott wouldn't stop with the ice. First he was swirling the cup, causing the ice cubes to clink against the side of the glass and now he was chewing on the ice. Chewing on the ice. He'd started tapping his pencil against the side of the table in an attempt to fight back but Scott ignored him. "For the love of god, stop!" he snapped.
VILLAIN (Crowley)
When he was alive, Crowley tried having a family. He married a nice girl and set about establishing a household in a quite proper manner.
His finances couldn't maintain things though and his wife OD'd on laudanum. He lost the house after that, and was forced to leave town.
He tried connecting with his children at one point, but they seemed to resent him so much that it just made everything uncomfortable. In a moment of rage, he lashed out and cut them off.
He's a villain because he's really not good at anything else. At least the suit fits.
TURNING POINT (Meg)
Meg had no idea how Castiel knew things about her. It's like he could see through all her bravado and tease out the corners of uncertainty that still lurk in her soul. He was batshit crazy then, but he was kind.
Later, she'll imply to Sam that her time babysitting Castiel was the turning point for her. That's not entirely true. Like so many others, her purpose began fraying at the edges when she encountered the Winchesters.
The angel was just the catalyst that made her think that maybe it could be worth it. A broken angel, of all things.
AUTUMN (Mary)
Mary always loved the fall. When the leaves began to change and the air turned crisp she could feel her spirits lift. It was like the lack of humidity in the air freed something inside and joy bubbled out.
Then her parents had died. They died on the most perfect day in autumn.
Ever since then, she'd grow morose when the season changed. So much that John used to tease her about her love affair with summer, he'd remark on how sad it's passing made her.
Summer never made a difference to her. It was autumn. It was always autumn.
ICE CUBES (Kevin)
It's hot on the boat today.
Kevin holds open the door of the ancient refrigerator and stares at the barren shelf. The thing had been clanging and everything else melted, but if he has to eat one more hot dog he's pretty sure he's going to vomit.
Wiping sweat from his brow, he picks up his phone and punches in Garth's number. He leaves another message about needing supplies.
He can't make a trip out on his own, it isn't safe. He's running out of ways to make anything edible.
The fridge clangs again.
"I can't even make ice cubes!"
POP CULTURE (Dean)
It's not that he thinks anyone would judge him - okay, it's totally because of that. A guy just likes to have things that people don't give him a hard time about, you know?
Take Sam. He has logins for unbelievably nerdy sites, and not even the cool ones. Dean's pretty sure one of Sam's online personas is a legit chess geek.
So Dean likes comic books! It's not like he doesn't talk about batman and shit all the time. He considers coming clean as he slips a copy of the latest Buffy comic into his Busty Asian Beauties magazine.
RED (Bobby)
Bobby didn't have many secrets by the time he got to the end of his life. Not that he was an open book, just that he tended to be frank. He'd found pretending to be someone he wasn't took too much effort.
He didn't go around telling strangers that he hunted monsters for a living, he wasn't crazy. It's just that those who knew him mostly knew all about him.
There was only one thing he could think that he'd forgotten to tell the boys. It seemed unimportant as he finally stopped outrunning his reaper. His favorite color was red.
Red (Josh)
When Josh started at SCH, he was warned that this was the hospital where the really scary shit went down. Drugs and dealers, guns and gangbangers...it all came through SCH. Three years later, Josh thought he'd seen it all.
It turned out that none of it prepared him for watching a five-hour hospital hostage standoff from a bar four blocks away. Five hours spent glued to the television, praying for news that Nora and Aidan were safe. Five hours reliving his memories of the last SCH hostage-taking. Five hours remembering the scene afterward, red blood everywhere.
Not again, he prayed.
Autumn (Kat)
Autumn has always meant new beginnings to Kat. The start of the school year. Fresh pens, blank notebooks...a clean slate.
She's a big believer in clean slates; in second chances and starting over. It's the reason she visits Aidan when he's ill, the reason she goes out with him even after the unprompted talk of junkies and the visit from the goons. Well, that and the fact that he's the only guy she's met recently who can talk intelligently about early American military history.
Kat's needed second chances herself once or twice. And she's pretty sure Aidan's worth the effort.
Ice Cubes (Sally)
Sally was mostly used to being dead. Sometimes she even managed to forget what it was like to be alive, to feel the wind and sun and rain.
Then there were days like today.
One-oh-four and climbing, said the radio. Josh and Nora were both sprawled in front of the living room fan, and even Aidan looked wilted. Sally watched enviously as Josh ran an ice cube along his forehead, water dripping down his face.
She could pick up ice now, if she wanted to. But she couldn't feel it.
It had been a while since she felt this alone.
Pop Culture (Aidan)
Aidan probably should have expected something like this--he's met Zoe, after all--but he's still surprised to find himself living out The Sixth Sense with Haley Joel Osment's role being played by an adorable eight-year-old leukemia patient.
She looks absolutely terrified by the ghosts crowding around her bed, and Aidan wonders if it's the first time she's encountered spirits. He chases them off when her parents aren't there to see and sits with her afterward, assuring her that yes, they're real, and no, they can't hurt her. Telling her she's not alone.
It's all he can do. He hopes it's enough.
Villain (Bishop)
Bishop's never imagined himself a villain.
Well, no. Of course he knows he's a villain. That's a reasonable name for an unrepentant killer, particularly if you're among his pool of potential victims.
No, what Bishop never imagined is that Aidan would see him as a villain. They're family, after all. Why else should Bishop reach so high, dream so great, if not to leave behind a better world for his son to lead after him?
It's why Aidan's rejection hurts so much. The one person whose good opinion Bishop truly desires, and he can't have it.
Not without sacrificing everything.
Turning Point (Nora)
Nora's experienced a lot of turning points. The day she decided she'd amount to something, whatever her family said. Her first day as a nurse. Her first full moon as a werewolf. The day she married Josh.
She didn't wake expecting another one today, but creeping up behind the nearer gunman while Aidan distracts them both, she knows it is. Two years ago Nora might have played negotiator, but she never would have dared try to wrestle away a gun. Now, though...
It's the day before the full moon. Tomorrow she runs.
Nora catches Aidan's eye and nods. They move.
